“When we’re growing up there are all sorts of people telling us what to do when really what we need is space to work out who to be.” – Elliot Page
Introducing My First Poetry Collection: Poetry growth – How I learned to slow down and find peace in my own skin 😃
This collection is dedicated to the sensitives of the world … those who feel deeply, who navigate life’s complexities with an open heart. May these poems resonate with you, reflect your journey, and remind you that you are not alone.
It marks the beginning of a journey. My first volume of poetry is a reflection of the years gone by and the path still unfolding. Over the course of these years, so many poems have emerged. Not all of them, however, reflect the growth I’ve experienced as I’ve navigated the maze of life.
Life is complex. It can challenge us in ways we can’t predict, but through it all, it’s vital to remember: each of us matters. We come into this world with purpose … to create lives that feel safe, worthy, and true to who we are, both within and without.
I often wonder if I hadn’t ventured into the world at the age of 19, once I could … would I be here now, almost 30 years later, writing poetry, essays, and a memoir? I think not. Writing has become my breath, my way of being. It’s freeing to let my voice flow through these pages. And I owe much of this freedom to those who supported me, as well as those who doubted me … who tried to keep me grounded, when it was so easy for me to soar with the angels, indeed, fearing I might fly too high … when, in truth, there was nothing to fear.
I write because I must. It’s my therapy. My grounding. My peace.
Writing, pondering life, walking barefoot, my regular Kundalini yoga practice, diving into history, exploring the lives of those who came before us, conversing with true friends, and watching comedies for a good laugh … all of these are ways I find peace.
Laughter is healing. Yoga is grounding. Walking barefoot is freeing. To be in meditation with life is to embrace unity. And unity is my goal … to be in union with myself, to find love, peace, and balance in my life, and to see and feel those reflections mirrored back to me.
I’ve made my peace with the inevitable challenges, knowing they will always be there … even, or especially, when I stray from my path at times. We all do. It’s simply human. I suppose that’s also part of the journey of being neuro-divergent, a highly sensitive person (HSP), and an intuitive empath. Life can distract so easily. But after all, life is here to challenge us, to help us grow and nourish ourselves into the people we’re meant to become. And so, I keep going. My way.
This collection is a poetic memoir, framed by the twelve months of the year. Each month begins with a quote, followed by three poems that reflect the emotional and spiritual journey of that season. It delves into themes of personal growth, sensitivity, grief, resilience, activism, and inner peace. The structure mirrors the slow unfolding of life itself … a cycle of becoming, letting go, and beginning anew.
Each poem is a step along the way, each month a chapter in the larger story of growth and healing.
If you’re interested in reading my collection, I’d be honored to share this journey with you.
Please feel free to download the PDF of my book and dive into these pages that hold so much of my heart. And, if you feel called, please consider supporting me on Buy Me a Flower … I’d be deeply grateful.
Thank you, DD🌻
